ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION

This site is a former wood-preserving facility that treated railroad ties with a creosote and fuel oil mixture. The soil and groundwater was highly contaminated with creosote and dissolved PAH's. In 1983 the U.S. EPA placed the site on the National Priorities List.

Terra was hired in 1999 to construct a funnel and gate treatment building and a groundwater remedial system. The remedial system consisted of field piping connecting the treatment building to injection wells throughout the property. Terra also installed 32 air sparging wells, 4 aeration wells, 18 monitoring wells, and free-product recovery sumps.
