Gary E. Zimmerman, P.E., founded Terra Engineering & Construction in
1972. Gary named his new company "Terra," which is Latin for earth, because
like the earth, he envisioned a company that is constant at its core, yet
evolving on the surface.
Gary immediately went to work on the "core" that remains a constant today. First
he pledged to hire only skilled laborers and operators from the local unions.
Without exception, he personally estimated and managed every project from beginning
to end. He kept promises, stayed within budget, and finished on time.
Terra's "surface" is evident within the diverse services that we offer. Gary believed
that success in the construction industry requires a willingness to adapt to changing
markets and be opportunistic as new ones emerge. So while Terra started out as a heavy
highway and utility contractor in the 70s, we have evolved into more specialized
areas of construction.
Terra has been a proud member of AGC of
Wisconsin since 1975 and was recently featured in their Constructor
Magazine. For a better understanding of Terra's history please take
